Getting started

Which operating systems are supported?

Quattor supports RPM-based Linux flavors such as specified in the following table:

How can I learn about installing and using quattor?

Links to documentation/tutorials are available via the Quattor at a Glance page on this wiki.

From where can I download/install/configure quattor?

The best starting point for a new site is the QWG templates described here. The QWG templates provide a complete solution for configuration and installation of a Quattor site. (You could think of it as analagous to a distribution in the Linux world in that it packages up the core software along with useful tools and documentation needed to get the system up and running.)

Using Quattor

How can I work out dependencies between templates?

The pan compiler (v8+) provides logging features that can show the include path for templates. You can find more information in the panc logging documentation.

Grid configuration

How can I install my EGI site with Quattor?

Check the Documentation on this site. It contains documentation for a collection of standard templates (called QWG templates) that can be used to install and configure a complete gLite site from scratch.

Miscellaneous

Under what license is Quattor available?

Quattor is freely available under the terms of the Open Source EU Data Grid software license and Apache License v2 (terms are very similar but for historical reasons Quattor toolkit uses a combination of both, depending on the components).

What does quattor stand for?

Quattor stands for 'QUattor is an Administration Toolkit To Optimize Resources'. This is a recursive acronym (like GNU: GNU is Not UNIX).
