4 This part of the site contains documentation related to using the pan language and documentation of the java-based implementation of the pan compiler (v7 and later).  You can view a [wiki:Doc/panc/TitleIndex list] of all files in this section or use the table of contents to navigate.
4The pan language is used within the [http://quattor.org Quattor toolkit] to define the desired configuration for one or more machines.   The language is primarily a declarative language where elements in a hierarchical tree are set to particular values.  The pan syntax human-friendly and fairly simple, yet allows system administrators to simultaneously set configuration values, define an overall configuration schema, and validate the final configuration against the schema.

6 The pan language continues to evolve to make it more productive for system administrators using it and to make implementations simplier and faster.  Foreseen changes to the [wiki:Doc/panc/language pan language] include both backwards-compatible and non-backwards-compatible changes.  You can view the roadmap for the expected implementation dates of various features.
    7
8 Release notes and description of known problems for new PANC can be found in release notes section.
6This wiki is intended as a users' guide for the pan language and is intended to be more accessible than a more formal specification.  The formal specification is available from the quattor website, although it has not (yet) been updated for the latest release of the compiler.
